Consumer Reports publishes reviews and comparisons of consumer products based on reporting and results from its in-house testing laboratory. It does not print outside advertising or permit the commercial use of its reviews for selling products. It states moreover that all tested products are purchased at retail by its staff, rather than being accepted from manufacturers as free samples.

However, most of the information on the Consumer Reports website is only available to paid subscribers.
